125 Team Update
There is a group looking ahead to our 125th anniversary, discussing such questions as “Who are we?” “Who does God want us to be in five years?” and, “What will it take to get us there?”
Regarding the first question, Calvary has been seeking a short and sweet identity statement for some time and, with input from others, the 125 Team sets forth this statement both to identify for others what is important to us and to guide us in our work for Christ: “Loving God, Exploring Faith, Serving Others.” Loving God comes first as our aspiration and our reality. We show our love to God through worship and giving and using our talents. We Explore Faith together, through each worship service’s scripture focus and through small group Bible and book studies. Loving God and Exploring Faith lead us to Serve Others, with the strength and power of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
The 125 Team is Nathan White, Joyce Waugh, Cara Sutherland, Patrick Stanley, Jenny Call, Gail Burruss, and Donna Britt. We look forward to letting this statement guide our journey of faith together.
NEWS & EVENTS
EVELYN TOWNSEND CIRCLE NEWS
What can a ladies missionary circle do? A LOT!!! At the March meeting of the Evelyn Townsend Missionary Circle, the Interim Director at the Baptist Friendship House expressed to us the urgent need for a small air conditioner to place in the HopeShed Food Pantry to protect their food when the hot summer months arrive. Our Circle ladies felt led to help and stepped out in faith, raised the money, and the air conditioner with a protective grate is now installed in the HopeShed Food Pantry. We are very grateful to David and Lynne White who spent much time and effort on this project and installed the unit themselves.
RAM HOUSE NEEDS
Did you know that RAM House ensures that at least 90 people a day will be fed? As RAM House runs strictly off non-profits, they count on the generosity of others to keep running. Items that they need the most include canned goods (any soups, tomatoes, beans, corn, hot dog chili, apple sauce, and fruits), canned means (tuna and salmon), staples (rice, pasta, gravy mix, mustard, mayo, peanut butter, tea bags, butter, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and spices), disposable gloves, paper plates, toilet paper, towels, aprons, brooms, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes and toothpaste. If you can help out with any of these items, please drop them off at the RAM House located at 824 Campbell Ave., SW, 24016.
STANDING ROCK:
The bake sale this past Saturday at Kroger by the Standing Rock Mission Team was our most successful ever with a profit of $1,210. Thank you to everyone for all their baking and helping with the sale. The leftover baked items were donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
Beginning the first Sunday in June, and continuing through the end of the month, you will see the return of the rival antelope and buffalo cans. One will have orange and maroon ribbons; the other will have orange and blue ribbons. You can support Virginia Tech or University of Virginia by donating (after worship) into the appropriate animal. Last year, the Hokies beat the Cavaliers. Will the Cavalier fans pull ahead this year? These donations will be used to purchase school supplies for the elementary age children on the reservation. Thank you for your support!
The dates for the 2012 mission trip are July 21 – 28.
