Prayer Shawl Ministry Description : As this team learns of prayer needs (healing, comfort, celebration), team members will bring prayer shawls, made by fellow believers, to the church to be "prayed over" and then given to individuals for whom they´re intended.
Homebound Ministry Description: Visit or contact by phone, on a reasonably regular basis, church members who are in nursing homes or who are homebound in their residences. Respond to requests from church office to remove or deliver items to or from church. Respond to requests from church office or Homebound Ministry Team chair to provide transportation for members to church functions, funerals, or medical appointments. May perform minor jobs at member homes, as requested, or at church as directed by Facilities Committee chair, with chair´s oversight on all electrical, plumbing and heating functions.
Visit church members who are hospitalized in pairs (2 team members) when Team chair is notified by the church office. Chair then contacts first member on the list and that member invites second team member to join in the visit.
When contacted by the Church office of a member’s death, the chair will contact a member of the Bereavement Team who will visit the person’s home and/or the funeral home to make contact with the person’s family.
Visit and/or otherwise contact new members to welcome and help them grow in Christ with Calvary. Provide opportunities for new members to learn more about Calvary's mission and ministries, offer church orientation and connect with a church member (at large) for mentoring purposes.
Focus on persons new to the community served by the church. The primary focus is to follow up on persons (through calls, visits and cards) who have visited our church.
As this team chair learns about a crisis or time of upheavel in a member's life, team members will provide food (home-cooked, store-bought, money or gift certificate) to enable those who are in need to deal with the other issues in their lives.Prayer Shawl Team

The members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry want to express their appreciation to all who have helped us with this ministry. Over 100 prayer shawls have been made thus far! The purpose of this ministry is to provide a symbol of this congregation’s love and support to people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. The members of this team do this through the efforts of a dedicated group who have used their talents in knitting and crocheting. We invite anyone who knows how to knit, crochet or use another type of handwork that can be used to create one of these gifts to join us. This is also a wonderful opportunity to become involved because we are willing to teach others how to knit, crochet, etc. Persons who want to contribute by rolling yarn into a ball or adding fringe to a shawl or blanket are also needed. You may be a close neighbor or friend to one of the recipients. If so, please let us know if you can be the person to deliver this gift. Also, we can use donations of yarn or money to purchase yarn. Many people have already been active in giving us the names of people who can use a tangible reminder that we care about them. Many other people have contributed shawls that they made on their own and others have contributed leftover and new yarn. Many of you have prayed over these shawls either before or after the Sunday morning service. Recipients have told us that this blessing is very important to them. This ministry has meant so much to the members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry and we thank all of you for the help that you have given. Please talk to Kathy Martin, Caroline Barbee, Carol Tate, Barbara Garner, Esther Owen, or Jean McBride if you can participate in any way in this work.
